The Table Saw Won!

By Patricia Hines

This past spring, my husband had the opportunity to get his hands on some lumber. In fact he had to take down a shed that was located about one mile from from our home. He took this shed down board by board and with the help of friends got the lumber transported home.

Now he had the lumber to build a shed for himself. This is the answer to a dream of his. Now, Loyal had never built anything in his life, he had no plans, just the germ of an idea and a lot of blood, sweat and tears.

He worked from sunup to sunset and was making really great progress when one day in May, he was momentarily distracted and the next thing I knew he calmly walked into the house with a towel wrapped around his thumb and said he needs to go the hospital.

911- what a fantastic system. Within moments the first Sheriff's Deputy showed up and he was followed by the first responders. They were fantastic, they stabilized him and the Deputy went out to the suspect Table Saw to see if he could retrieve any of the thumb, but all he found was damaged beyond retrieval.

The EMT's with the ambulance arrived and in short order they had him dispatched to the hospital.

We arrived at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, AR and they were there waiting for us. Loyal got treated promptly, well faster than promptly actually. The staff was professional, caring for his needs and then checking on me. I do believe that at this time I was much more upset than he was.

X-rays were taken and the surgeon was called in. We had very little waiting to do. The surgeon thought that perhaps there was enough thumb left to salvage and he sewed it up with instructions to see him in the office the next day.

More pain medicine was given for the ride home, and a Prescription for later. Unbelievable but true, 3 1/2 hours after the accident we were back at home.

The Deputy had one word of advice for my husband, the Table Saw always wins!

I know the feeling, Patricia, I've done it twice. Slow learner!!
Keep up the good work.
Best wishes.

I come from a long line of tool users and none of us have no scarring. The tools always win when you let down your guard. The Table saw is almost the most benign of all woodworking power tools
